For a quarter century, North America’s only tarmac rally has remained impossible to broadcast live. Over 2,000 kilometres of remote coastal roads, mountainous terrain, and zero reliable cellular coverage have made real-time video transmission all but impossible.

The Connectivity Challenge
Targa Newfoundland isn’t held inside a stadium or on a closed circuit. Over eight days, competitors race across more than 2,000 kilometres of public roads through some of Canada’s most isolated coastal communities.
For 25 years, broadcasters have faced the same challenge: long stretches with no cellular coverage, no robust internet infrastructure and scarcely populated coastal communities where critical communication costs are prohibitive.
No solution has been capable of supporting a live broadcast across the entire event.
Dejero connectivity testing along the route proved just how challenging the connectivity landscape is on The Rock.
Coverage Map
We mapped the entire 2,000+ km route stage by stage, including every overnight stop, from the Atlantic Coast to Placentia Bay. We tested cellular coverage cell by cell along every kilometre of the route.
Cell-by-Cell Analysis
The results confirmed what organizers already knew: this terrain breaks conventional connectivity. 99.52% of all 1,470 GPS measurement points recorded upload speeds below the 6 Mb/s target across the entire Targa route.
The Solution
